While I am super comfortable with my eating patterns and foods choices these days, one of the things that I constantly struggle with is drinking enough water. I know I always feel best when I am properly hydrated and despite carrying a water bottle with me everywhere I go, I still don’t drink enough. So, when Diana posted her Project Hydrate Challenge, I knew I wanted to participate.

My goals for this challenge are:

  • Drink half my body weight each day in water. This includes herbal tea, as well.
  • Carry the water I need to drink with me each day to work so that I can be sure I am on track with drinking enough.
  • Don’t chug the water all at once, drink it throughout the day to keep hydration levels steady.
  • Drink more water to compensate for exercise.

I think this will be a great challenge and knowing that I have so many other bloggers with the same goal will help keep me focused on the goal.

How about you? Do you feel that you drink enough water each day? How much do you drink?

That’s a good challenge! I’m horrible about getting water in. I prefer to hydrate myself via diet Coke or Coke Zero. :D

But in all seriousness, I’ve been noticing how dry my skin is lately and that I don’t feel 100%, so it’s time to cut back on the fizz and up the water.

Especially in dry winter air, it’s so important to get enough water, but I find that I don’t make the effort as much as I should. Why is it so hard to drink water, when it’s so essential to the body? This is a great challenge :)

I drink ~48 oz at work (I refill my bottle twice) but NEVER drink enough during/after exercise. I’m pretty sure that’s why I needed tylenol this morning. That’s something I want to get better about!

I’m definitely interested in hearing more about Anita Johnson. This masculine/feminine thing is so interesting to me that I’m going to search for a book at my library.

Hey Laura, I am not sure if you read my post from yesterday but the book is not about the masculine/feminine thing. It is an amazing book and has been an important part of my process but it is more about ED recovery and becoming in touch with your feminine side. Just wanted you to know.

A great challenge. I notice how dry my skin gets when I’m not properly hydrated. My energy levels go down as well. I’m going to work on this!
Also, I really enjoyed your post about the divine union of our feminine and masculine traits. Such interesting and insightful ideas. Thanks for sharing!

I KNOW I need to drink more water–it’s been really hard lately for some reason, I already feel like I drink a lot, but I know I don’t. I do know that being better hydrated would improve my energy throughout the day. I’m in!

I don’t know exactly how much H2O I drink a day, but I generally have 2 HUGE glasses of H2O every morning prior to classes where I have a HUGE H2O bottle full of the liquid, then I’ll have another full bottle during a workout (or 2 or 3), and then I’ll have at least 3 more HUGE glasses when I get home before I go to bed. This is not including the regular 8oz. cup of tea I start each day out with and usually I’ll have a Crystal Light Green Tea in a H2O bottle (12oz.) a day on top of the regular H2O.

Oh man, I really want to participate in that too. I’ve always made an effort to stay hydrated, but rarely do I really succeed. Unfortunately I think I’d better not. I’ve just started a job where I’m only allowed to leave my desk at 10, 12 and 3. If I drank as much water as I’d like, there could be problems… I wonder if I could drink enough just in the evenings?

GREAT challenge! I’ve been trying to drink more lately, too, and I find that I want it more in all the seasons other than winter for some reason. I guess all the cold just makes me not thirsty?

I started aiming to drink more water around the beginning of the year after realizing that 99% of my fluid intake was from coffee and Diet Dr Pepper. I generally drink 96 to 128 oz of water a day plus 24 oz (sometimes more) of coffee and a can of diet coke or two. I think it makes a huge difference and I’ve noticed I really crave water now.

i’m lucky this is an easy one for me. i’m a big water and green tea drinker. i’m never w/out a beverage by my side. i do throw in a couple of caffeine free diet sodas here and there, but i drink mostly water. i think it was great during my pregnancies (no stretch marks!) and still serves me well now.

I SHOULD drink more water, but I don’t. Some days I do better than others. But typically, I probably drink about 5 glasses a day. Plus a liter when I exercise. However, I’ve been thirsty a lot lately, so I’ve been trying to drink more.

Sounds like a good challenge. I bring a gallon of water and my goal is to drink half of it each day. But that makes for a lot of bathroom trips.

Sounds like a great challenge! I’ve recently been trying to drink more water as well. I leave a water bottle at work and it’s my goal to get through two of them before I leave for the day. It’s hard! And it means more frequent bathroom breaks!

I drink a ton of water! This is definitely not my weakness. I usually drink about a gallon of water each day, on top of that at least one huge mug of green tea.
Great challenge!! Hydration is very important!
When you say half your weight in water do you mean if you weigh 140lbs you drink 70 oz of water? I’ve heard that’s a good rule of thumb.
