So yesterday, I changed it up and today, I changed it back. The protein and veggie breakfast just did not do it for me at all. I felt hungry all day and never seemed to get satisfied. When breakfast time rolled around today, I decided to just go with what I know and made a bowl of sweet potato oat bran.

My bowl contained:
- 1/4 cup gluten free oat bran
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla rice milk
- a few baked sweet potato chunks, including the skin
- 1 tbsp grapeseed oil
- 2 drops vanilla stevia
- cinnamon, nutmeg
- flax seed

Welcome back, my dear friend. Something about orange oat bran just makes my stomach sing in the morning time. I’ve got a busy day today so I want to be fueled up for it. I have an appointment with Gena, errands to run and batch cooking to start.
I hope you all have a wonderful day! What is on your weekend agenda?

I am all about carbs for breakfast. Really I love carbs anytime of the day, but I’m trying to be better about eating half a loaf of bread right before bedtime. (especially when I have a vacation coming up in T minus 4 weeks!) I just love carbs
Have a great weekend!

Hey girlie.
Your oatbran looks delish. I have never tried it with sweet potato. It sounds wonderful!
Since I tried your carrot cake oat bran recipe, I think I need to try the sweet potato one!!
Have a great weekend!!

Changing it up is fun because it is a great reminder of how we shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken.
Breakfast looks delicious!
I agree, lesson learned
Yum, delicious breakfast! Do you prefer the sweet potatoes to the pumpkin addition? Is it indeed sweeter? Just wondering.
And I have to have carbs at breakfast, otherwise I’m just plain unhappy. Protein schmotein.
I still need to try this sweet potato oat bran….looks amazing as always!
I gotta have my oats in the morning!!! I still need to try oat bran. I love orange food and vanilla stevia….so good! We are having friends over this weekend so it should be fun! I hope you have a great weekend!
Wait, do you eat gluten free? What does grapeseed oil taste like? So many questions, so little time.

I do eat gluten free. I started it back in August and feel so much better than I used to.
Maybe you have it somewhere already on the blog but what differences are you seeing? I’m very curious.

A ton, actually. Going gluten free has helped me with muscle and joint pain, extreme fatigue, acid reflux, IBS, brain fog, eczema and my general sense of well being. If you check out the gluten free tag on my blog, I have tons of posts about it.
Grapeseed oil has a very neutral flavor and easily replaces butter in baked goods.
I’ve noticed that I feel fuller longer sticking with my usually oats in the mornings too. On the days that I do switch it up I notice more snack monsters attacking me!! I HATE THAT! Your sweet potato oat bran sounds super yummy…

Me too! I felt snacky all day yesterday and can’t stand feeling that way.
I would never think to add sweet potato but it looks great!

Try it! It is so good!
It’s so interesting how some things work for breakfast and others don’t! I wonder if it has anything to do with what our body is used to, or if it really just depends on the day and what our bodies need?
We’re having a girls night tonight… which I’m really excited for b/c it’s always hard to get everyone together. I don’t really have that many girlfriends so I always look forward to seeing the ones that I do have!

I am the same. I have a couple of close girlfriends and relish in the time I do get to spend with them.
Hi Christie! I’ve been lurking around your blog for a while. I think I am a fair bit older (47) than most of your readers and I often feel that time is running out on me if I ever want to tackle my food and weight issues. One of the problems I have identified for myself is my lack of and resistance to planning my shopping and my meals, and also to cooking every day. I work hard and live on my own and when I come home in the evenings I am often too tired and unmotivated to cook. You have mentioned your batch cooking before and I apologize if I missed a longer post on the subject, but would you mind telling us more about it? Like, what kind of things do you batch cook? How long does it take you? How many different meals do you prepare in this manner? I think you batch cook once a week? Do you typically freeze everything? If you have already shared more info on this perhaps you could just point me to a link
Your blog is getting better and better and I love reading it! Thank you, Kerstin

Thanks Kerstin! I would be happy to do a post on batch cooking and meal planning. Stay tuned!
I always need a good bit of carbs+protein to really get me going in the morning. But I think it’s cook you were able to try something different and “experiment” a bit! Live and learn
