Custard Oat Bran

by Christie on January 28, 2010

Remember custard oat bran? The long lost breakfast I used to eat every single day? Well, friends, I am happy to say that it is back. Once I went gluten free, I couldn’t find affordable gluten free oat bran but when I read that oat bran was allowed and even encouraged on the ACD I follow, I decided to suck it up and just pay the price. I love it, have missed it dearly and was willing to pay anything. Well, lucky for me, I found an awesome deal on gluten free oat bran on my trusty grocer, Amazon.

It arrived last night, so I had a bowl this morning. In case you weren’t a reader back then, this is how you make it:

1/3 cup oat bran

1 cup milk  (I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk)

pinch of salt

one beaten egg

Mix the oat bran, milk and salt in a large bowl and microwave for four minutes, stopping it to stir once. Quickly stir in the beaten egg and let it sit for about a minute. Top with your choice of topping and devour. Today’s bowl was topped with crunchy, unsalted almond butter and chia seeds.

Dear Jenny and I have received some unsettling news about Baron Baptiste and Rolf  Gates and as a result, I’m not sure when I will be writing about the un-stuck challenge again. I am very confused and am not sure how I feel and need time to think things through. Trust that I will write once I know how I feel about the whole thing.

That looks FABULOUS! I’ve never done the egg in oat thing, but I think I’ll have to try it.

I use Only Oats Oatbran – you can order it on their website and shipping isn’t all that expensive.

When I checked out Only Oats, the shipping was $20 making the oat bran come out to about $7 a lb. And due to the qty you have to buy, I couldn’t really see buying even more to make the shipping less. With that said, I got these 7lbs for $17 on amazon with free shipping.

Estela, if you google it I am sure you can find it. I’d rather not really say anything until I have fully formulated an opinion, though.
