Custard Oat Bran

Remember custard oat bran? The long lost breakfast I used to eat every single day? Well, friends, I am happy to say that it is back. Once I went gluten free, I couldn’t find affordable gluten free oat bran but when I read that oat bran was allowed and even encouraged on the ACD I follow, I decided to suck it up and just pay the price. I love it, have missed it dearly and was willing to pay anything. Well, lucky for me, I found an awesome deal on gluten free oat bran on my trusty grocer, Amazon.

It arrived last night, so I had a bowl this morning. In case you weren’t a reader back then, this is how you make it:

1/3 cup oat bran

1 cup milk  (I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk)

pinch of salt

one beaten egg

Mix the oat bran, milk and salt in a large bowl and microwave for four minutes, stopping it to stir once. Quickly stir in the beaten egg and let it sit for about a minute. Top with your choice of topping and devour. Today’s bowl was topped with crunchy, unsalted almond butter and chia seeds.

  1. That looks FABULOUS! I’ve never done the egg in oat thing, but I think I’ll have to try it.

I use Only Oats Oatbran – you can order it on their website and shipping isn’t all that expensive.

    • When I checked out Only Oats, the shipping was $20 making the oat bran come out to about $7 a lb. And due to the qty you have to buy, I couldn’t really see buying even more to make the shipping less. With that said, I got these 7lbs for $17 on amazon with free shipping.
