Yoga as in Life

This morning I did day two of my “un-stuck” challenge since Jenny’s book arrived last night. She is going to do day one and two today but I only had to do day two since I did day one a few days ago.  In day two of Meditations from the Mat, Rolf discusses the eight limbed path to yoga, also known as the yamas and niyamas. At first, I was thinking, man, this isn’t what I want. I want deep and meaningful, I am trying to change my life here. And then, it hit me like a ton of bricks in the last paragrah.

“With yoga as in life, it is about the journey and not the destination”

Um. Yeah. How did he know what I was thinking?

That is one of those lessons that life keeps drilling into my brain and as hard as I try, I never really “get it”. I want it all now and have to constantly remind myself that both on my mat and in life. So, with these thought whirling around in my brain, I hit play on my iPod and began. I decided to do the 25 minute core flow from The Yoga Bootcamp Box by Baron Baptiste and within seconds I was reminding myself  “the journey and not the destination”.  I hung there in rag doll, my back felt tight and my legs would not straighten. I was reminded that yoga is a practice not a given. I haven’t practiced regularly in ages and my body was telling me all about it.

“the journey and not the destination”

Where will I be when this little challenge of mine is all said and done? I don’t really know. I hope to be stronger, more secure in my practice and on my way to meeting all of my goals. One thing is for sure, I plan to focus on the journey and not the destination.

What about you? Do  you get wrapped up in thinking about the outcome rather than the lessons along the way?

I like this! I think that, for health in general, it really is all about the journey. To be honest, MOST of the time I’m thinking about the journey rather than the end goal. Whenever I host challenges on my blog, the point of the challenge is to spread awareness or try something new… there’s never any “reward” at the end of it, except good health!

  3. Yes, I definitely rush through the journey to get to the outcome – always have. I need to remember to step back and smell the roses every once in a while. :)

I definitely get too “goal-oriented” at times, rather than think about the steps it takes to get there. I’ve noticed when I do look at that process or journey, I learn and appreciate SO much more!
