Gentle Yo-Gah

Last night, I went to a hatha flow class and it was just what I needed. Since my first vinyasa class almost two years ago, it has been my preferred style and anything slow paced made me cranky. I never really appreciated just sitting with my breath in a gentle pose but that has quickly changed. For my required three classes a week, I have been going to either vinyasa or power vinyasa classes and that was awesome at first. Then the urge to to balance my yang practice with some yin was growing stronger with each surya namaskara (sun salutation). I started to notice about a week ago that I felt very out of balance and my intuition knew I could find a solution in my yoga.

I went back to my old yoga stomping ground, Journey Home Yoga, and as if she knew, Candy led us through a lovely gentle class that focused on opening the shoulders and chest. She even used a ton of sanskrit since she knew my test was coming up soon. Most of the classes I have been taking lately only use the english names for the poses so it was really helpful to be in a class that helped me learn the sanskrit as well as the asana. By the time I left, I felt relaxed and firm in my desire to take more gentle classes. I never thought I would be one to crave low key yoga but for the time being, I am just going with the flow…er..the lack of flow :)

When I got home, the dear husband had dinner ready to go. He heated up a couple of bean burgers from the freezer and we topped them off with some ketchup and mustard. This particular recipe was made with pinto beans and almond flour to make them gluten free and they were delicious!

We also had a little photo shoot in our office with the kitties and all of their cuteness. This is Caddie, he loves sleeping in baskets and he weighs almost 18lbs! We call him “meepers” because of the cute little meep sound he makes when he is talking to us.

This is Georgy, he is a trouble maker.

And this is my sweet, sweet, girl, K.C. aka Kitty Cat. Love her.

I think that so often, people think that all yoga is low-key and “not really a work out.” I liked that you talked about wanting to balance out the intense flow classes with a gentle class every once in awhile… I wouldn’t mind doing the same!

Tonight, I’m meeting up with a couple of friends after work and then some local bloggers at Seasons 52. Very excited about that! I need to spend some time studying (for a work-related exam) this weekend as well!

Your yoga teacher training sounds so amazing. Such hard work but so rewarding. My preferred yoga is slow hatha; I need time in each pose to feel it properly and get frustrated if we go from one pose to the next before I am ‘done’.

My weekend will involve quite a bit of chilling out hopefully! And some yoga at home :) Hope you have a lovely one. And thanks for the comment you left me, I really appreciate it.

Wow – I was just thinking about this! I took a “Hatha Beginners’” course actually this week to try to change it up and see how the instructor taught for beginners…I am usually all about the Flow/Power as well. I totally agree – this was so what I needed. I did it on my lunch break – which never happens by the way and meant I had to stay late at work :(…but it was so great. It was slow with mostly breathing and very simple postures, but it felt great to have no “pressure” or not to have to keep moving, but rather just to “be” for a moment…started to make me think this is what I need more in my life and shouldn’t put pressure on myself to always do core and strengthening moves…hmmm.
Your bean burgers look great!! Are they home-made? I have alot of beans in the cupboard and was thinking of making some burgers but want a healthy recipe…any website suggestions?? I also just posted a bit about beans/lentils if you want to check it out.
Take care hon and don’t study too hard…hair therapy is a great idea!! I’m going to do that next weekend when I have off!
I have the training again today and tommorow from 11-7p.m…why do I almost “dread it”? Isnt’ that horrible? Shouldn’t I want to go? Maybe it’s just anxiety and fear about ‘stepping outside of my comfort zone’ again…it’s a struggle though. Part of me feels almost like I’d rather just write and go to a matinee and do some shopping and go to a wine show with friends…stuff that I don’t do very often…I often wonder if that’s what I should be doing right now instead on my ‘path to healing’ instead of putting pressure on myself with doing this training…

    • I think you should just listen to your heart about the training and where you should be in your life right now. For me, it has been a major commitment physically, emotionally. spiritually, mentally and if my heart weren’t in it, I would not be able to do it. Some days, I want to just cry because of how hard it is but for me, it will all be worth it when I can share this part of myself with others. Have you ever read anything by Baron Baptiste? I really recommend you read Journey Into Power, I have a link on my namaste page.

As for the bean burgers, I made them from scratch, beans and all. Click the blue link that says bean burgers in this post for my recipe.

Your kitties are so cute :)

I love slow paced, peaceful yoga that doesn’t require much effort. It takes me to a different place and I can escape for a few minutes out of my day :)

  5. i love gentle yoga….have been outa practice for a long while so it might be good to get myself into a gentle class to get the ball rolling a little….
