Still a Rookie

Oh boy. Just when I was settling into my gluten free lifestyle, I’ve been “glutening” myself everyday for almost ten days now. My doctor prescribed me Nasonex for my grass allergies and I have been using it everyday since. My symptoms of being glutened have been building and building until finally, last night, my shoulder hurt so bad it hurt to move my arm. I suspected the canned beans I had put in some soup last week and had been eating every day. I emailed my girl Jessy and she was uber helpful as always. We talked about beans, nightshades and other gluten free topics before it dawned on me that the medicine might have gluten in it. I looked it up and sure enough, it does.

I must admit that a wave of sadness washed over me. I think in some ways, I’m still accepting that this is my life from here on out and this was a harsh reminder of that. But, on the bright side, at least I know now and can move forward. I will also be much more careful in the future about medicines. Hopefully, in a few days, I will be pain free and my energy levels will go back to normal. I have also been having a really hard time focusing and think that will improve as well. I’ve got a big weekend ahead full of yoga classes, yoga teacher training and a yoga workshop so I’ll need to be feeling my best.  I’m going to take Jessy’s advice and eat plenty of raw veggies in addition to drinking a ton of water to flush out the gluten as soon as possible. Wish me luck!

Have you had to learn the hard way about something you were eating or medicine you were taking?

  2. I’m glad you figured it out! I hope you feel better soon!

I can only imagine how hard it must be to have to do a complete overhaul of everything you are putting into your body. I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about medicine either. Hopefully it will all be gone for your yoga filled weekend!

Hope you start feeling better soon. Sometimes it’s one of those lightbulb moments that illuminates what it was that was causing you to feel so bad.
