How to Make Homemade Peanut Butter

I’ve been making my own nut butters for a while now but have just gotten around to making homemade peanut butter. The results were so phenomenal, I had to share them with you. I decided to make my own when I noticed that a pound of peanuts cost significantly less* than a jar of all natural peanut butter and boy, am I ever glad I made that decision. This peanut butter is the best peanut butter I have ever tasted. It is bursting with peanut flavor and you can make it as creamy as you want. Your oatmeal will thank you.

Homemade Peanut Butter

makes a 16 oz jar (if you don’t eat it all before putting it in a jar :D )

1 lb roasted, unsalted peanuts (I buy them from Trader Joe’s)

2 tbsp local honey

1/4 tsp sea salt

Add all ingredients to the bowl of your food processor and let it go for about 10 minutes until a smooth creamy peanut butter is formed. Every couple of minutes or so, the peanuts will form a ball, when that happens, use a wooden spoon to break it up. Patience is a virtue here and I promise that if you keep breaking it up and processing it, it will make creamy peanut butter. If you are very inpatient, you could add a couple tablespoons of mild flavored oil to help it along. If you wanted crunchy peanut butter, just reserve some of the peanuts and only process them for a few seconds at the end. Serve this on…well, you know what to serve it on ;)

*this would depend on the kind of nuts you buy and the kind of PB you normally purchase

Oh my god. That sounds awesome. I’ll have to check to see if it is indeed cheaper to do it that way (I honestly don’t know how much do peanuts cost!).
Thanks!

Diana, I buy the nuts at Trader Joe’s where nuts are cheapest so I guess it could depend on what kind of nuts you buy. My work puts nuts as part of a snack type station in our club room and they run over $8.00 a pound so in that case, it would not be cheaper :D I also don’t know if it is cheaper than say, jiff since I only buy all natural PB. But, this PB is so good, I would make it even if it weren’t cheaper. It is SO good!

Yeah that PB looks pretty much good enough to eat as is. I have been loving my food processor since buying it a couple months ago, but have yet to try nut butter. I think it needs to happen!
