The Impossible Dream

About two years ago, I went with my friend Sarah to my first yoga class. I felt deeply connected to the practice and immersed myself into it. Over the past couple of years, yoga has changed my life by healing both physical and emotional wounds. I’ve come off my mat in tears, enlightened, frustrated, relieved, a gamut of emotions that have connected me with my true spirit. I’ve been so inspired by my teachers and I knew from moment one that I wanted to do the same thing for others.

For a long time, I thought that doing so was the impossible dream. I had fears about my weight because I do not have a “yoga body”. I thought that teaching yoga was beyond my reach and then I met Candy. From the moment I walked into that class with her, I knew that weight wasn’t really a factor in determining if I could be a yoga teacher or not. Somehow, even with that knowledge, I still held myself back. Then, last week, during a yoga class with Candy, I knew that I was the only one holding myself back. I came home from that yoga class and emailed almost every yoga studio within a 200 mile radius. I wanted to get into a program and had set my goal to be in a training program by this time next year. The universe giggled at that goal.

Little did I know, my life would be turned upside down by a few emails and a trip to Virginia Beach. Yesterday, I was accepted into a training program designed for working adults in Virgina Beach. The program is one year long and will require a lot of commitment, discipline and time. And, as crazy as it sounds, it starts NEXT WEEKEND. That is right, folks, I am starting yoga teacher training next weekend.

I will be driving down to the beach twice a month for the program, thankfully, I only live about two hours away. I will also have to enroll in three classes each week here and have then signed off on by a certified yoga teacher. In addition, I have also have a daily home practice and record my experiences. Somehow, someway, I will make this work because I want this so bad. And after all is said and done, in one year from now, I will be a certified yoga teacher. My life is changing and finally, after all of this time, it is because I am chasing my impossible dream.
