Balsamic Miso Glazed Flank Steak Recipe

When Foodbuzz offered the chance for an online shopping spree at Asian Food Grocer, I jumped at the chance. The number of participants was limited and I thought for sure I had missed my chance. Well, low and behold, I was given the opportunity but there was one catch. I had to come up with a recipe featuring one of the ingredients I purchased. Since my specialty is not Asian cuisine, I decided to just go with what I know and came up with a lovely recipe for flank steak. Balsamic, miso and orange is one of my favorite flavor combination to use on stir fry so I thought, why not flank steak? This recipe was soon born and the results were nothing short of fantastic! The steak was very tender and had a lovely hint of sweetness.

Balsamic Miso Glazed Flank Steak

1 lb flank steak

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

2 tbsp red miso paste

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp orange marmalade

1/2 tsp crushed garlic

salt and pepper to taste

Combine all of the ingredients, except the steak, into a small bowl and stir well. Pour the sauce into a large ziplock bag along with the flank steak. Seal the bag and let the steak marinade in the fridge for a couple of hours. Be sure to flip the bag over every now and then to ensure even distribution of the marinade. Preheat the broiler, remove the steak from the bag and discard the sauce. Broil the steak for 4 to 5 minutes and the flip and broil on the other side until the steak is medium rare. Do not overcook. Remove the steak from the broiler and allow it to rest on a cutting board for about 5 minutes. Thinly slice the steak against the grain, season with salt and pepper and serve hot.

I have never cooked with miso before, I think I’ve always been hesitant on how it would turn out but this sounds / looks really good!

Very nice! I also picked up some red miso, and really didn’t know what to do with it. Definitely giving this a try :)
