Green beans are in abundance at the farmer’s markets these days and I love coming up with new ways to use them while they are in season. These green beans combine sweet with spicy and are simple to make. They come together in less than 15 minutes so they are perfect for weeknight meals.

Sweet & Spicy Garlic Green Beans
Serves 4
1 lb fresh green beans, washed and trimmed
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
1/4 cup onion, finely diced
1 tsp crushed garlic
1 tbsp honey
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
salt and pepper, to taste
Heat a large skillet to medium high heat and add in the oil and butter. Once the butter is melted, saute the onions and garlic until the onions are translucent. Add in the green beans and the crushed red pepper; stir well. Saute the beans until they begin to brown slighly, about 5 minutes. Add in the honey and saute until the honey starts to caramalize. Remove the beans the heat and cover the pan, if the pan is very dry, add in a couple of tablespoons of broth or water. Allow the beans to steam in the covered pan for about 5 minutes or until they are tender crisp. Season with salt and pepper and serve hot.

That looks delicious!! Thanks for sharing : )
I make a very similar dish, but I have never added honey. I just recently started to like sweet and spicy dishes; I’ll try this! Thanks for sharing!
I have grown up my whole life having a dislike for green beans…but the ones you made make me rethink that dislike. They look good to me–this is huge! haha
sweet and spicy is one of my favorite flavor combinations! This is a stellar dish! For some reason, I would love this with grits…
These look amazing! I have to work hard to do funky and fun things with veggies to get my hubby to eat them and I’m sure he’ll be excited to try these. Thanks!
