This past weekend, at the recommendation of a friend at work, we decided to throw a cooler in the car and head out to the Goochland Farmer’s Market. As you know from my visit to the Chester Farmer’s Market it takes a lot to impress me because I grew up in Raleigh, NC and they have THE BEST farmer’s market.  When we arrived in Goochland, which is just short of an hour from our home, the prospect of this being a good experience was dismal. From where we parked, it looked tiny and unimpressive.

But once we got “inside” my outlook completely changed. There were all sorts of vendors for produce,

meat

and cheese

soaps & skincare

and crafts.

There was even live music!

I came away with some organic heirloom tomatoes

and some heavenly cinnamon bread.

Overall, I really liked the Goochland Farmer’s Market and will probably make it back before the season is out. If I lived even 20 minutes closer, this would be my farmer’s market of choice as it has most of what I am looking for.  But alas, it is miles and miles away so I just feed off of the memories for a while. :D

OMG – very cool! I love all the stuff they had! Our farmers market is large – but really “hum drum” – they have all the same old fruits and veggies. I try to keep my eye out for cool stuff (like patty pans and light eggplants) – but they never have it!

Yum, the cinnamon bread reminds me of my childhood. There was this great bakery that made the best cinnamon swirl bread–with gooey raisins in the swirl. It was heaven all toasty and warm. They sold the bakery though and the bread just isn’t the same. Sad, sad story.

I’m so jealous!! I used to live in Raleigh NC too and there is just no beating the farmer’s market there. The one we have locally in my small Florida town is a joke…really bad..like 10 vendors tops and half of them are crafty type things:(((

Now you’ve got me wanting to experience the Raleigh, NC market. Our Farmer’s Market here in Burlington, VT is excellent! http://www.burlingtonfarmersmarket.org/ It’s one of my favorite events of the weekend. Are any of the markets closer to you?

Farmer’s Markets are so fun! You’re right though, they are not all created equal. Looks like you found a good one!

Beautiful! I am glad it exceeded your expectations. Too bad it is a little out of the way.
