My husband and I had cupcakes at our wedding instead of a traditional cake and since then, cupcakes have held a special place in my heart. When I heard about Frostings, a new cupcake shop in Short Pump, I knew it was a must on my places to try list. It is located a couple doors down from Pizza Fusion and Trader Joe’s and I have been waiting for the perfect time to try it.

The shop itself it pretty small and nondescript but the spectacular menu makes up for the lack of decor. They offer the classics like vanilla cake with chocolate frosting or red velvet cake with cream cheese and they even offer vegan or gluten free choices.  Their creativity really shines with daily specials like Pina Colada and Peanut Butter Cup.

Lucky for me, I stopped by on Saturday and my all time favorite flavor combination was available – Chocolate Hazelnut. This cupcake features a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, a nutella center and is topped with chopped hazelnuts.

Are you drooling yet?

The cupcake was delicious. The frosting was sweet but not overly so and the cake was rich, moist and chocolaty. It had just the right amount of nutella filling and the nuts added great crunch.

The cupcakes are reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly. Overall, I really loved Frostings and plan to go back the next time a cupcake hankering hits.

Oh my goodness…I AM drooling over here! My only problem in that place would be my indecisiveness. It all sounds SO GOOD.

Perfect cupcakes are something to behold! Wow!!

My husband adores wedding cake, so I always go to our local baker to make a top tier of a wedding cake, with frosting, for his birthday every year!

I have relatives in Richmond, I’ll have to let them know about this place – thanks for sharing!

Those cupcakes look awesome. I wish that bakery was near me! I thought the ones with hazelnut looked the best!

See for me the problem (of this can even be considered a problem) is that when I have cupcakes I seem to eat way more than when I have traditional cake!

Cupcakes always test better and are easy to snack on – no fork required!
