Wow! What a fantastic time we had in Blacksburg! We love going to the mountains so I feel sure that this destination will be on our trip list again soon. Since my breakfast and snacking habits were the same everyday, here are a few highlights of my eats and activities on Saturday.

We had planned a hiking trip to Mountain Lake with Brandi and Nick and since we were leaving around lunch time, they suggested we eat lunch at Tangent Outfitters.

It is a little place that from the outside, you would never expect to get an awesome lunch. But, looks are deceiving, my friends. I ordered a “minnow” sized ham sandwich on wheatberry bread loaded with veggies and sun dried tomato spread. The lunch was incredibly filling, I wasn’t able to finish the whole thing by far!

After a few minutes on some very winding roads, we arrived at Mountain Lake. The lake was dried out but the scenery was gorgeous anyway. We hiked the Homestead Trail

about 2.5 miles up to Bald Knob outlook.

After our hike, we went back to their house and freshened up for dinner. Brandi had been selected in the Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24 series and we were excited to participate. We had dinner at the Bank which is rich with history and famous for their upscale dining and wonderful desserts.

I started with a mixed greens salad (sorry, my camera ate the photo apparently) that had the lovliest dressing on it. It was sweet and tangy with a hint of onion. For my entree, I ordered the fillet with blue cheese garlic sauce which was served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The steak was perfectly cooked and I could not get enough of the sauce. I will be googling that one for sure!

When dessert time rolled around, we all chose the same thing. The Chocolate Bomb! This little gem was filled with chocolate mousse, creme broule, a crispy praline bottom and a beautiful dark chocolate glaze. There was also a raspberry drizzle on the plate that I did not eat because I don’t like chocolate and raspberry mixed together. This dessert was delicious and I do admit to eating the whole thing!

We really appreciate Brandi inviting us to come along for this wonderful meal as well as all of the other wonderful adventures we had! It was unforgettable and many memories were made.
