Daily Eats: Super Charged

I was up with the birds yesterday and had a very productive morning. First, I had a bowl of oat bran with sunny side up eggs

with peaches on the side. Please forgive the recycled pictures. :)

I did some work around the house and then did a one hour run (very slow) on my treadmill. I watched the Today Show and ran through the commercials and walked through the segments. I have said it once before and will say it again if only for a reminder to myself. The treadmill is much more enjoyable if I challenge myself! The time flew by and dare I say, it felt good!

Once I was fresh and clean from my morning chores and treadmill, I met my friend Kristin in Carytown. We met at Ellwood’s Coffee Community Place which boasts organic, fair trade coffee and a charming atmosphere. I had a beautiful non fat vanilla latte

and a fruit cup while we chatted away.

Around lunch time, we headed over to The Baker’s Crust where I had the best lunch I had eaten in a really long time. I ordered a “Malibu” signature sandwich that featured multi grain bread piled high with roast turkey, guacamole, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, onions and muenster cheese. How perfect does that sound?

It came along side a hot bacon spinach salad that was also heavenly. It was a basic spinach salad but the dressing was incredible. I also really enjoyed the goat cheese crostini that I saved for dessert :)

After lunch we browsed around Carytown for a bit and then ended up at Ellwood Thomspon’s. I wanted to check out the amazing grass that Jenna had been talking about. Low and behold, they were giving away samples and we promptly gave it a taste. Double yuck. Seriously, this stuff is disgusting but within a short while, my energy level dramatically increased. I kind of felt super charged! I was skeptical at first but I am a believer now! Kristin and I parted ways at that point and I headed home.

When the dear husband came home, I made dinner. Foodbuzz had sent me a sample of Buitoni Wild Mushroom Agnolotti and though I really didn’t want to just top it with regular pasta sauce, in the end, time won and that is what I did. I added ground meat to some of the  marinara sauce I made on my big cooking day and topped off the puffy pillows.  I had been reading mixed reviews about it and was really curious to taste them. I have to say, for packaged pasta, I really enjoyed them. The really tasted like the mushroom ravioli from the Olive Garden and I think I preferred them without the sauce, I think just a drizzle of olive oil and a little extra cheese would have been the perfect compliment. I probably will not buy these again as I do try to stick to whole wheat pasta plus the sodium and calorie count are both pretty high but I would recommend them for a quick weeknight dinner. Thanks, Foodbuzz!

On the side, we had some asparagus with an olive oil drizzle and chili and garlic sea salt.

After dinner, we headed out to Good Food’s Grocery because by then, I was sold on the amazing grass. it was almost 6:30 and I was still feeling a super amount of energy. They did not have the amazing grass brand so I bought the Garden of Life Super Green Food and will see if it has the same effects! We also went to a new Target that just opened up and browsed around. When we got home, I was still wide awake and hungry again. I had a small bowl of Kashi Go Lean Crunch and then tried my best to go to sleep. Seriously, I wouldn’t recommend drinking that stuff after lunch time! I finally got to sleep around 11 which for me is just insane!

Question: Do you use a treadmill? Do you find it dreadfully boring or have you found ways to make it more fun?

that latte is beautiful. I love coffee art.

I use a treadmill if we go to the gym on non-class days to run, but not normally. Mainly because we don’t have one :) It’s usually kind of boring to me just because we usually run outside, but it’s not too bad if I have some music or a tv to watch.

  2. What a pretty latte and what a delicious looking sandwich. I haven’t been to Carytown in ages, and I should take a little weekend jaunt soon! Of course, I’m still recovering from last weekend’s interstate traffic between here and Williamsburg. If only I had a flying car. :-)

How cool that you got engaged in the ‘burg. I really love it there this time of year with everything blooming.

One of my favorite salads at Houston’s includes hot bacon dressing, and oh my. So good!!

Seems like you’re really having a great week off! I love having coffee and lunch dates!

I call the treadmill the “dreadmill,” if that’s any indication of my feelings about it. I’ll do it at the gym for a warm-up before meeting with my trainer, but I have to have a distraction like TV or music.

I had my Buitoni with olive oil and freshly grated Parmesean cheese and it was delightful! I think I agree that sauce would overwhelm.

I do run on a treadmill and just started outside running. I think a treadmill can be physically easier, but mentally harder – how many more minutes, always checking the panel. Outside is physically harder, but overall more enjoyable.

I use an elliptical and stationary bike in the mornings. The only way I find them bearable is to watch movies or episodes of TV shows on DVDs. I just have to make sure I’m keeping my energy output high.

  7. Haleigh says:

The latte looks amazing. I don’t like the treadmill so I couldn’t help you out there, but it definitely makes the time go by faster if you watch tv, read a mag or listen to music but I would much rather run/walk outside even if it’s cold :) Enjoy your week

    Love the latte!

I have only run on the treadmill once, I prefer the outdoors for my runs or the indoor track.
