Snow Day!

Yesterday, we woke up to this:

About 5 or 6 inches of snow and according to the news, the roads were a disaster. Since I live in Central VA, we aren’t used to anything but flurries every now and then. The good news is that I didn’t have to go to work! Hoooray for a snow day! In celebration, I decided to make Bob’s breakfast again. I made pancakes from the mix we bought while we were in Smith Mountain Lake.  The mix has whole wheat flour, corn flour and rye flour, a delicious combo! The aroma while they were cooking was so enticing I could hardly wait. To officially make it Bob’s Breakfast, I topped my portion off with a sunny side up egg and a little real maple syrup. Lazy mornings don’t get much better than this.

After breakfast, I caught up on blog reading and then we watched the 2 hour movie event of Brothers and Sisters on the DVR. Drama, I tell you! Once that was over, we were both ready for our snow day lunch. I made Amy’s low fat cream of tomato soup

and grilled cheese on arnold thins.

For lunch dessert, I had a pile of grapes that were on their last leg.

The deliciousness of lunch is pretty self explanatory since you can’t go wrong with grilled cheese and tomato soup. The rest of the afternoon was spent doing a few things around the house and finally a little yoga. We did a 25 minute power flow that has been on my ipod so long that I don’t even know where it came from. The flow was pretty fast paced and some of them were pretty challenging. We looked at each other and laughed when he instructed us to “float” from downward facing dog to staff pose. Floating isn’t exactly what happened :)

After yoga, I made dinner. I made a version of this recipe. I made so many changes that I am not even really sure what I did. The major change being that I made it with barley instead of rice, used jar pesto and added in mozzarella cheese.

On the side, we had pan roasted broccoli since I was pretty short of veggies for the day.

Dessert was a glass of chocolate milk.

We spent the evening watching tv and reading. I stayed up much later than usual so I got a little hungry around bedtime. I had just what I was craving, grape jelly on arnold thin toast!

It was a lovely snow day!

Lucky you with a snow day!

Were I to ever get an unexpected day off, I would most likely spend it reading or catching up on tv. I’m very lazy like that. :)

that cheese is killing me! lovely eats :)

I love unexpected days off – I like having more leisurely breakfasts, enjoying my coffee on the couch while watching the news, catching up with house work/fun things, doing errands that I never seem to complete otherwise!

Beadie, I wish I could have joined you on your snow day..it sound so much fun! Between the movietime, the yoga, the delicious lunch (i have been making good old grilled cheeses lately in our cafe with full fat cheese and butter…oh i miss those!) and a fun day with the hubby and all, it sounds so perfect. yesterday, i tried to do some school work (we had cancelled classes), watched some tv but couldnt share it with my boyfriend (he goes to school in MD, they were snowed in, too!) i can’t wait to get married!!

First of all, I am LOVING the blog layout these days – this may be my favorite-looking blog right now! Well done!

I wish I could have had a snow day yesterday – we got plenty, but no office closing :( At least the boyfriend is a teacher and came into the city to lunch with me. :) If I had had a snow day I probably would have done something boring like taxes or whatever. That sounds just wrong!
